A LIVING CHURCH
Faith and dreams in Albania

During 23 years of communist persecution of religion in Albania, 1600 churches and religious buildings were destroyed.

Then early in 1991 an Orthodox priest ministering in Kenya received a late-night call from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, asking him to go and revive the Albanian church.
The story of the church's dramatic renaissance in the decade that followed, led by Archbishop Anastasios, one of the most visionary leaders of the world-wide church, is told in images and interviews in this film which provides stark proof of the miserable physical conditions in Albania at the end of communism and of the valiant efforts of the churches to overcome deep prejudice and to rebuild the life and the spirit of the Albanian people.
